Ulster Ladies All Star Awards for Our Lady’s Secondary School

Our Lady’s Secondary School has once again demonstrated its excellence in Gaelic Games, as two of its Senior Girls GAA team members, Katie McAdam and Dervla Cawley, have been selected for the prestigious Ulster Ladies All Star team for 2024/2025. This remarkable achievement brings the school’s total number of Ladies All Star Awards to 32 in the past 12 years—an outstanding record by any standard.

Katie and Dervla were among six students from the school who participated in the initial trials, which saw over 130 talented players from across the province competing for a coveted spot at the final trial. Both girls impressed the selectors and were invited to a second trial in Cookstown on February 24th, where they competed against 60 other players. The school community was thrilled when it was officially announced that both girls had secured their places on this year’s Ulster Ladies Colleges All Star team.

Speaking on the achievement, Principal Mr. Kelly, who also coaches the Senior Ladies GAA team, expressed immense pride in the students:

“To have one Ulster Colleges All Star in any given year is a fantastic accomplishment, but to have two in the same year isremarkable. Katie and Dervla, along with their teammates, are exceptional ambassadors for Gaelic Games in our school. They are outstanding role models for younger students, demonstrating not only their obvious talent and skill but also their commitment and dedication to extracurricular activities.”

Mr. Kelly also took the opportunity to commend the dedication and hard work of the team’s coaches, Mr. Nolan, Ms. Kerr and all the GAA coaches at the school.

“Our coaching staff plays a vital role in nurturing our students' talents and fostering a culture of commitment and high standards in school football. The dedication of all our GAA coaches, who invest their time and energy in developing our students, is commendable”

Our Lady’s Secondary School continues to set high standards in Gaelic Games, with all girls’ teams now competing at the A level across all competitions. The school’s sustained success and the growing list of All Star Award winners for both boys and girls stand as a testament to the dedication of its coaching staff and the talent of its students.
