Design Team Appointed for Three Classroom Extension at Our Lady’s
In a significant development towards enhancing the excellent facilities at Our Lady’s Secondary School, the Board of Management is set to embark on an exciting project that promises to further improve the learning environment for students with special educational needs. The Department of Education's recent approval of funding for a state of the art three classroom SEN extension, complete with a multi-activity room, daily living skills room, and modern toilet and shower facilities, signals another important milestone for the school community.
The vision for this project was unveiled during a briefing at the school on January 24th, 2where the newly appointed Design Team engaged with various stakeholders, including representatives from the Joint Managerial Body for Voluntary Secondary Schools, the Board of Management, Senior Leadership & Management Team, staff and students. Niall Smith Architects, Semple & Mc Killop Mechanical & Electrical Consultants, Alan Clarke Civil Structural Engineer, Mc Gahon’s Quantity Surveyors and Mc Carthy Keville O’ Sullivan Ltd have joined forces as part of the Design Team to transform this vision into a tangible reality.
Mr. Kelly, the Principal of Our Lady’s, expressed his excitement about the project, stating, "This SEN extension is not just about adding physical space; it's about creating an environment where every student can thrive. The new facilities will not only cater to the academic needs of students with special educational needs but also provide spaces for their social and personal development. We are committed to providing tailored support and resources for our students with special educational needs, ensuring they have the best possible learning experience."
Dr. Gary Carville, Chairperson of the Board of Management, emphasised the school's dedication to inclusivity, saying, "This project aligns with our core values of equity and diversity. We believe that every student deserves access to an education that caters to their unique needs. The SEN extension is a testament to our commitment to fostering an environment where all students can reach their full potential."
While the SEN extension is a significant milestone, it comes shortly after another major achievement for Our Lady’s. On November 8th, 2023, the school proudly opened a 15-classroom extension, featuring an Art Room, Technology Room, 2 Science labs, and 11 general classrooms. In the words of the Principal Mr. Kelly, "The recent growth and development at Our Lady’s symbolise our unwavering commitment to excellence in education. We are not just expanding physically; we are evolving as a school community that continues to nurture the talents and abilities of every student."
