National Awards Galore for Our Lady’s Business Students

Chartered Accountants National Finals


TY Accounting students took part in the Chartered Accountants of Ireland Bootcamp Challenge. This programme enables students to master the fundamentals of accounting and to develop their problem solving, business and leadership skills. Students were given a "real-life" business simulation where they had to play the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a company (Wild Ride). Due to the quality of their project, Saoirse Cunningham, Sophie Malone and Ashlinn Hughes were awarded 1st place in the National Finals and won €1000. David Lambe, Michael Renaghan and Craig Brady also achieved a runner up award for their excellent submission.

Student Enterprise Competition National Finals


Shannon McClenagan was awarded 1st place in the Folens Smart Business Idea Category and received €500. Shannon demonstrated her creativity by creating an innovative jewelry product. The product is aimed at people who have alzheimer's disease. The jewelry has an inbuilt discreet GPS which acts as a safety feature if people who have this disease become distressed and unsure of their surroundings. The jewelry is beautifully designed so males/females take pride in their appearance.


Aoife O’Neill, a 1st Year student recently came 2nd in the Student Enterprise National Finals and received €250. She entered the My Entrepreneurial Journey Category where she had to imagine herself as an entrepreneur at a future stage of her life and tell the story of her fictitious business, highlighting what she learned along the way.

Aoife submitted three different elements for the competition.


1 - An Essay on her Business Idea

In this section Aoife wrote about her innovative business idea called Rubies. Rubies is a sustainable dog grooming business. It uses chemical free shampoo and all of their dog collars are biodegradable.


2- A Business Plan

Aoife created a business plan to showcase the success of Rubies. In the business plan she stated what market research she did, how the service was provided and how she marketed the product.


3 - An Interview with an Entrepreneur

Aoife interviewed Aine McGuigan from Crafty to discover what life was like as an entrepreneur. She asked questions such as, what skills and qualities an entrepreneur needs, what are the challenges and benefits of running your own business and what laws need to be complied with. She then wrote up a report which reflected what she learned about entrepreneurship.
