Equestrian
OLSS equestrian team has proved successful in many of the interschool showjumping leagues over the years. This year we’ve taken the opportunity in joining partnership with Castleblayney College to create a very competitive team. It is the first time that both schools have joined together to show off their very talented horses and riders. The team recently competed in the TRI Equestrian League in The Meadow’s Equestrian Centre, Co. Armagh, finishing in 5th place out of 26 teams.
Each competitor is highly committed to the sport, and is focused on representing the school to the best of their ability. During the interschool’s league the students train in Kernan’s Equestrian Centre, Crossmaglen with trainer, James Kernan. This year the team comprised of Bronagh Treanor, Gráinne Lacey and Sophie Moore, with Orla Nesbitt from Castleblayney College. The competitions take place every fortnight on a Saturday morning, meaning most competitors are travelling with their horses from 7:00am. This shows the commitment and determination of students and parents to represent the school and to work together as a team.
Our team is always a mixture of both junior and senior students, and we welcome new members every year. Our senior management team are very supportive giving us the opportunity to represent the school in many competitions throughout the academic year. Chef d’Équipe, Ms. Marron, organises the lessons and competitions, and is at all of the competitions to help and guide where needed.
